About

Fauntleroy Gardening Co. is the solution for your garden design, consulting and project management needs, tailored around your budget and your dreams.

From containers to mixed borders, city garden plots to urban oases, lighting, patio furniture and custom metal work, my clients draw on our experience and trusted sub-contractors to make their projects run smoothly, on time, and stress-free. We would be happy to talk with you about your ideas and share with you our own on how to create the garden you have always wanted.

We design with a wide range of styles that are determined by many things such as the site and the style of the home, but most importantly, the client’s aesthetic. These three factors are the primary influencers of what design style we would take with a given garden. Just to name a few of the gardens that we have designed, they include: Mediterranean, NW native, NW contemporary/modern, woodland gardens, cottage gardens, Puget Sound Coastal and mixed borders.

Following the right plant right place philosophy helps to create beautiful, effective gardens that require less maintenance. A well designed, implemented garden should thrive with minimal effort.

Our Team

Jason Kibbey

Owner, Designer & Principal

Born in Western Washington and raised in Snohomish, Jason has called Seattle home since 1997. He started out in horticulture in 1998 and has worked in the field continuously since then.  He attended the University of Washington where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Archaeology with minors in Architecture & Art History. In 2005 he helped found a small garden design/build company before striking off in 2006 to form his own company now known as Fauntleroy Gardening Co., LLC. A deep passion for plants, a keen design sense, and an insatiable desire to create beautiful spaces are integral parts of his body of work.

While he enjoys working in his own garden in West Seattle, hiking, camping, cooking, reading, baking bread, and enjoying time with family and friends are the things you’re most likely to find him doing when not working.

Penny Ray

Operations Manager

With over 20 years in operations, Penny possesses broad cross-functional experience in emerging, high-growth, and well-established organizations. She is a creative, motivational leader, focused on maximizing efficiency and productivity, and passionate about cultivating relationships and delivering exceptional results. She fully embodies the thriving company culture at Fauntleroy Gardening Co. which promotes ingenuity and growth, along with a healthy work-life harmony.

Anne Harai

Lead Color Designer

Anne was born and raised in Denmark, spent three years living in Australia, and has been settled in Snohomish with her cats and husband since 2000.  After spending 25 years in a law occupation, she decided on a career change that would involve a lifelong love of gardening and southern hemisphere plants. She has been with Fauntleroy Gardening Company since 2021 and has fun creating containers for all seasons.

Most of Anne’s spare time is spent backpacking, reading, baking, knitting, traveling the world, running a photography website & travel blog, and occasionally working on stained glass projects. The rest of her spare time is spent catering to her cats.

Ben Rieger

Associate Gardener

Born and raised in Spokane, WA, Ben has called Bellevue home for the last 7 years. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Nutrition and a passion for horticulture. He has been studying and cultivating various species of indoor plants since 2018. Favorite genera of his include Ficus, Monstera, and Hoya. Ben gets great satisfaction from nurturing the diverse gardens that make up western Washington.

When he’s not amongst the plants, Ben enjoys spending time with his wife and their 2-year-old puppy, Hazel. You may spot him reading by the fire, deep in a good game of Scrabble, or painting outside on a sunny day.

Annie Gencay

Associate Gardener

Shortly after completing the Pacific Crest Trail in 2017 and falling for the beauty of Washington state, Annie moved from Michigan to Seattle. With a degree in public health and a passion for the outdoors, her career shifted from desk work to green spaces. After a few seasons spent working in environmental restoration and as a ranger with the U.S. Forest Service and National Park Service, Annie has cultivated a deep appreciation for how our outdoor spaces and gardens can benefit both our physical and mental health. These passions have culminated in a career in gardening where she hopes to dive deeper into horticulture and landscape design while continuing to connect clients to the beauty of their outdoor spaces.

Outside of garden work, you can usually find Annie out camping, hiking or backpacking in the mountains, paddle boarding or reading by the water, volunteering as a Master Gardener, and almost always hanging out with her dog, Shasta.
